Look, Ma! I’m on the news!

Having worked in the film industry off-and-on for five years, I thought I had a semblance of an idea how the news would be run - little did I know, they run a much more efficient operation than any artsy feature film! Ha! Call time was a measly 15 minutes before airing (compared to 1> hour pre-call on set!), and before I could ask “So, is this pre-recorded or live?” the lovely broadcaster said, “And we are LIVE here with the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition…”

I swallowed my nerves and rambled about my project, For Small Creatures, and said “it takes about two shots to get used to it.” This was how I describe my experience watching For Small Creatures on a big screen for the first time ever, in London of all places, at its festival premiere in the “Celestial Bodies and other Space Oddities” shorts block of the FRINGE! London Queer Film and Art Festival. This little animated short was screened alongside shorts film on Alexa Minis and other such high-resolution cameras, and seeing my humble little animation (shot on an iPad, in an outdated mode of analogue cut paper!) WAS jarring, for about two shots. However, like all things, you rapidly adapt.
